General

What Is Independent Living?

Independent living is for older adults who do not need daily care but want a simpler, more convenient lifestyle. At The Cedars, residents enjoy a private apartment with access to dining, programs, amenities, and services, while still deciding for themselves how they spend their time.

Is Independent Living The Same As Assisted Living?

No. Independent living is for older adults who can live on their own and do not need daily personal care. Assisted living includes added support with things like bathing, dressing, medication management, or other everyday needs. At The Cedars, the focus is on independent living.

Can I Bring My Pet?

Pets are welcome at The Cedars, and the on-site dog park gives residents and their four-legged companions a place to get outside and connect.

What’s The Dining Program Like?

The kitchen serves three made-from-scratch meals each day, with chef-prepared menus that change regularly alongside resident favorites that stay in rotation. Gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, low-carb, sugar-free, and other dietary needs can also be accommodated.

Can I Keep My Car? Is There A Garage?

Yes! Many residents also choose to keep their cars, with garage parking available on site.

Independent Living

Who Lives At The Cedars?

The Cedars is home to independent older adults who want the freedom of their own space without the upkeep of a house. Some are looking for more opportunities to be social, while others prefer a quieter lifestyle with fewer day-to-day responsibilities. Both are welcome here!

Even Though I’m Not Ready Yet, Is It Worth Looking Into?

Yes. With more Baby Boomers beginning to explore senior living, the so-called “silver wave” is bringing more people into the market and increasing demand for desirable communities. Looking into your options now gives you time to understand what is available and what matters most to you before you are ready to make a move.

Payment

Does Medicare Cover Independent Living?

Generally, Medicare does not cover the cost of living in an assisted living community with daily activities. It may still cover eligible medical services you receive while living there, such as doctor visits or certain therapies.

Does Medicaid Cover Independent Living?

It can, depending on eligibility and coverage. Medicaid or long-term care insurance may help with some costs, please reach out to your representative for more assistance.

Is Any Of It Tax Deductible?

Some expenses may qualify for a medical expense deduction, depending on your individual situation. For independent living, the cost of housing and meals generally is not deductible simply because you live in a senior living community, but certain qualifying medical or long-term care expenses may be. Because tax situations vary, it is best to check with your tax professional about what may apply to you.

Moving-In

What Does Moving In Actually Involve?

Once you choose your residence, our team will walk you through the process and help coordinate a move-in timeline that works for you. Before moving day, you will know what to expect and who to turn to with questions, making the transition to The Cedars as straightforward as possible.

How Do I Handle Downsizing?

Start with your residence floor plan and think about what will fit comfortably in your new space. From there, focus on the pieces you use and enjoy most. The Cedars team can also connect you with trusted resources and experts who can help make downsizing and moving more manageable.

How Long Does It Take?

There is no set timeline. Some people are ready to move quickly, while others need more time to sort through belongings and prepare. The Cedars team can help you plan the process so you know what needs to happen and when, without feeling rushed.

Continuum of Care

What If I Need More Help Later?

The Cedars is designed for independent living, so we do not offer assisted living or a full continuum of care on campus. If your needs change over time, our team can help you understand your options and plan for what comes next. For many residents, the goal is to remain independent for as long as possible while enjoying a lifestyle with less home maintenance and fewer everyday responsibilities.
